BACKGROUND: Preclinical students often fail to appreciate the clinical relevance of basic sciences during the first year of undergraduate medical training, leading them to lose interest in the subject, and preventing them from achieving the desired goals. In order to rectify this gap in the curriculum, Medical Council of India (MCI) in 2011 published a document announcing curricular strategies including Early Clinical Exposure (ECE) to effectively modify the Indian system of education. Lack of proper guidance prevented many institutions from implementing ECE. Since our institution had run a similar program of “Clinical Observership” as early as 2001, we were able to implement ECE in an efficient way. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Early clinical exposure was implemented as a structured program, with the participation of 10 clinical departments since 2013. Feedback from the students, soon after ECE and also from the batch of CRRIs, who had undergone this program while they were preclinical students amply support the effectiveness of ECE in its contents and methods of implementation. Manual content analysis was performed on open comments. After reading the responses, they were broken down to meaning units, and these were then condensed. The condensed meaning units were labeled with codes. The codes were grouped into categories. Themes were derived from the categories. RESULTS: Out of the 70 CRRIs, 52 responded to the questionnaire. All the CRRIs except one said that ECE was very helpful during their clinical postings and internship period. They suggested that the number of hours of posting should be increased and also reiterated the fact that a greater number of clinical departments could be included in the program. Though the beneficial effects were felt in all the domains of learning, the most remarkable impact was felt in the affective domain, wherein changes are not easy to come by. DISCUSSION: Recently, National Medical Council has come out with plans of including ECE in the syllabus with strict time schedule. It is felt that the faculty will find our experience of running the program for the past five years helpful in implementing this program, for the fullest benefit of the preclinical students.

The article introduces the results of studying the motivation types of professional activity that promote work satisfaction of "Ivushka" furniture factory employees. The subjects of the test have been classified into two groups: sales managers and workshop workers. The concept of K. Zamfir, F. Herzberg's dual-factor theory, and the Expectancy theory of V. Vrum are of scientific interest for the conducted study. The authors identify the correlation between the internal motivation of the employees of both groups and their work satisfaction. The last depends on the content of activity and availability of interest to it.

В статье рассмотрены основные теоретические аспекты учебной и профессиональной мотивации в студенческом возрасте. Представлены определения понятий ?учебная мотивация?, ?мотив учения?; дана общая характеристика познавательных и социальных мотивов. Авторами охарактеризована классификация видов мотивов, исходя из их направленности и содержания, в которую входят познавательные, социальные, прагматические, профессионально-ценностные, эстетические, статусно-позиционные, коммуникативные, традиционно-исторические, утилитарно-практические, учебно-познавательные, неосознанные мотивы. Представлена структура академической мотивации, включающая познавательную мотивацию, мотивацию достижения, саморазвития, самоуважения, интроецированную и экстернальную мотивацию; выделены типы мотивации на профессиональную деятельность (внутренняя, внешняя положительная и внешняя отрицательная) и ведущие мотивы профессиональной деятельности: мотивы собственного труда, социальной значимости профессии, самоутверждения в профессии и профессионального мастерства. Авторами представлены результаты экспериментального исследования учебной мотивации и мотивации к профессиональной деятельности у студентов первого курса; с помощью метода ранговой корреляции Спирмена выявлены взаимосвязи компонентов учебной мотивации с типами мотивации на профессиональную деятельность и ведущими профессиональными мотивами у студентов-первокурсников. В результате корреляционного анализа установлено, что мотивация познания, достижения, саморазвития, самоуважения, интроецированная и экстернальная мотивация, амотивация, внутренние и внешние мотивы поступления в вуз, широкие и узкие познавательные мотивы, релевантные и иррелевантные мотивы взаимосвязаны с типами мотивации на профессиональную деятельность (установка на профессию, внутренняя профессиональная мотивация, внешняя профессиональная положительная мотивация), ведущими профессиональными мотивами, такими как мотивы собственного труда, мотивы социальной значимости профессии, мотивы самоутверждения в труде, мотивы профессионального мастерства..

Successful transition for students commencing university is a focus of increasing institutional interest and resourcing to optimise student success and retention. Investigation of student expectations of university commencement and their lived experience provides an opportunity for identification of a potential mismatch which has received less scrutiny. The Bachelor of Sport Development has an integrated transition initiative with an employability and academic skill development focussed curriculum, designed to support students' successful transition into university. The transition initiative was informed by the Five Senses of Success and First Year Curriculum Principles. This article reports student expectations in week one and at the completion of the first semester after experiencing the transition initiative. Students reported changes in their expectations, assessment concerns, and the assistance they expected from lecturers over this period. Students’ early exposure to employability-focused curriculum provided valuable insights into their future profession, consequently reinforcing their long-term goal of employment in the sport sector. Results highlight the effectiveness of the supportive, student focused strategies embedded within the tailored transition initiative in the first semester of study.

Agricultural Education relies heavily on national and state professional associations to serve School Based Agricultural Education (SBAE) teachers. Because there is not 100% membership in these organizations across the country, it is vital to learn what is holding teachers back from joining and identify the needs of current members to encourage continued membership. The purpose of this descriptive survey study was to determine teacher motivations to join their state ag teacher professional association and identify priority areas for initiatives. Data were collected from 245 SBAE teachers through a Qualtrics survey using skip logic to gather information from members and non-members. Results indicated most members were joining for networking opportunities and professional savvy. Cost and communication were indicated as limiting factors for non-members. Current members identified that curriculum resource sharing, new teacher resources, and teacher retention efforts should be very high on the list of priorities for the association. State association leaders should utilize this research to focus on networking and professional development initiatives as well as opening the lines of communication with stakeholders. Future research investigating demographic differences in decision to join and qualitative follow-up with members who have left may also be warranted.
